Project 365 - day 181

Some new stash - couldn't resist the new June Bug and Lemonade ranges by Basic Grey - but only the 6x6 pads which are perfect for making cards.

HSMSHS - Beauty

A combination of qualities that give pleasure to sight or mind. Find 'Beauty' in your space.

I know I posted this photo yesterday but when I saw today's HSMSHS prompt I know it had to have a second viewing. Skye is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited - so peaceful and unspoilt - and I can't wait to go back.

Camping on Skye

I apologise now - but this post is very photo heavy. I took almost 200 photos over the weekend - and to be honest they really don't do the place justice.

We had heard all the tales about the bad weather on the island but the forecast was good - so armed with midgie repellant off we set.

Our first stop was Plockton - to see the palm trees. Its a beautiful little village full of interesting little cottages and shops.

We ate our picnic just outside the village by a little stream where the local highland cows took an interest. The are beautiful creatures - and kept stopping the traffic by standing in the middle of the single track road!!

After pitching the tent at Kinloch Camp site close to Dunvegan village we set out to visit Coral Beach. Its the only "sandy" beach on the island - although it isn't actually sand. Its a coral like substance which is really pale in colour formed by some sort of algea. The cows seemed to like it - it must retain the heat as a whole herd of them were lying down on the beach - not something you see every day!!

Our tent.

Views from our campsite which was right on the banks of Loch Dunvegan.

On Sunday we toured around the north of the island. My favourite place was Stein village - it was so peaceful. I have never seen sea so clear - and the view was to die for.

The boys at the ruins of Trumpan Church. The MacLeods used to worship here, but one Sunday in 1578 the MacDonalds of Uist landed on the beach, barred the church door, and set fire to the building. All the worshippers were burned to death except for one girl who escaped and warned the MacLeods at Dunvegan Castle. A MacLeod force, carrying their magic Fairy Flag which guaranteed them victory in battle, managed to reach the scene in time to set upon the MacDonalds and slaughter them to a man. Under the church lie the bones of the vanquished MacDonalds.

Then we set off to find Fairy Glen near Uig. Not easy when there are no signposts to tell you the way but a lovely lady in a local pottery pointed us in the right direction. And what a wierd and wonderful place it was - it looked like a set from lord of the Rings - I kept expecting a small hobbit to jump out!! Strange conical shaped hills and rocky outcrops and minature lochs. It was roasting hot but that didn't stop the boys running up and down all the hills. We had a picnic while we were there - and all your could hear was birdsong and a waterfall across the valley - no other people and no traffic - I have never been somewhere quite so peaceful.

Up to the top of the Trotternish peninsula we went to see the ruins of Duntulm Castle - the views across to the Hebrides were stunning - the sky and sea so blue.

And finally on our way back to the Skye Bridge and the mainland we stopped off in Portree - a view of the harbour.

We had a fantastic couple of days and would love to go back - the boys saw dolphins and ospreys - and even though we did plenty of walking and sightseeing they throughly enjoyed themselves.

FORBID - To refuse to allow, find 'Forbid' in your space.

The sign at the car park at my local library - no parking spaces today - so i was naughty and prked on the double yellows!!

Project 365 - day 179

This is what consitutes a traffic jam on the mainly single track roads on Skye - one farmer and his cow.

Project 365 - day 178

Sunset at our camp site on Skye - managed to get Sam to strike a pose!

Weekly Challenge and new stash.

This weeks challenge was to scrap the men in your life, to use something that you seldom use and to use the sketch or part of it for inspiration.

I finally cut into my Scenic Route Cape Town papers that I bought at the start of this addictive hobby - trying to use up some of the older stuff but its hard as the reason I haven't used it is because its too nice to cut up!!!!

But I have treated myself to some new papers - the new Road Map and Cherry Hill collections by October Afternoon. Also got the matching Bazzill and journalling stickers. I also restocked on the Country Fair collection which is one of my all time faves.

And before Andy kicks off about me spending - I sold some of my under and never used stamps on the marketplace on UKS which funded this spending spree. Next on my wish list is the new Basic Grey June Bug and Lemonade.......

Project 365 - day 177

Definitely a BBQ day - the boys love them - and it means I don't have to cook! Result.

HSMSHS - Arch

A curved symmetrical opening spanning an opening. Find an arch in your space today.

An arched doorway on a church - possibly St Giles Church - up by the castle in Edinburgh.

My gorgeous boys

I'm their mother - so I'm biased!!

Before we left for Sam's final school concert I managed to persuade the boys to let me take some photos of them. It will be the last time Sam wears his old school tie so wanted to record the occasion.

Really pleased with how they have turned out - like the white shirts against the backdrop of my remarkably clean white garage door!!

The concert was brilliant - the kids had all worked so hard. In between the acts different members of P7 stood up and told the audience of some of their best memories of primary school. Sam and Ollie were the props men for the evening - and Sam presented his teacher Mrs Hewitt with a card to mark her retirement. It is such a shame she is leaving and she really is the best teacher Sam has had - strict and fair - but treats them as grown ups. She will be missed - and am sure Callum would have benefited from her style of teaching.

The concert was rounded off by the whole school singing a song called Goodbye my Friends - I had tears in my eyes as they sang and I'm sure many other P7 mums did too!!!!

Project 365 - day 176

Our first ripe strawberry on the boys plants - but I won't be rushing out for a pot of cream just yet.

HSMSHS - dirt

Any unclean substance, such as mud or dust. Find dirt in your space today

This word and Callum go together like strawberries and cream!! Cal loves his rugby - throws himself right into the game and likes nothing better than to tackle especially if it means he gets dirty. Believe it or not this photo was taken BEFORE a game - you can imagine what he was like at the end!!!

That's my boy.

Project 365 - day 175

Thought I would photograph my bargains.

Bought 2 photo albums in Boots - the larger one with horizontal stripes was reduced to £3.00 and the smaller one was reduced to £2.50. Then if that wasn't enough of a bargain - they were buy on get one free - so 2 albums for £3.00

The idea now is to look through the pics I have printed off to scrap and put them in the albums to make it easier to pic which ones I want to scrap next.

On my way home from work today I popped into WHSmiths on the the off chance that Scrapbook and Card Trends might be in a day early as mentioned by Kev. They weren't so I wandered upstairs to the craft section and spied some EK Success punches. Not sure what the original prices were but the whale of a punch square one was reduced to £2.99 and the 1/2 inch circle and little flower were down to £1.25. Then when I got to the till she queried the receipt as everything had come up as half price - so I got all 3 punches for the princely sum of £2.74!!! Not bad.

HSMSHS - Eaten

To have put food in your mouth, chewed and swallowed. Show us 'eaten' in your space today.

A photo of Cal from our trip to the Peak District a couple of years ago - think he had just enjoyed a rather large slice of gooey chocolate cake! Please note the paper napkin firmly wrapped around him to ward off the inevitable mess.

Have tons of baby pics showing similar sticky situations - but that meant digging them out of the box which I don't have time for today.

HSMSHS - and Project 365 - day 174

Pages - Sheets of paper that are bound together in a collection. Find some pages in your space today.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I always have a book on the go (quite often more than one) and this is my latest library book. Am trying very hard not to buy books - as my 2 big bookcases are now very full and I dread to think how many of them I haven't got round to reading yet!!

HSMSHS - amd Project 365 - day 173

Centre - The middle point of an object. Show us the Centre of your space today.

The building site behind around our house is covered in poppies at the moment - and this one caught my eye as I opened the kitchen blind this morning. It was poking its head into our garden in between the fence posts. The patterns in the centre of the flower are stunning - if somewhat sinister. But not as sinister as the middle of a tulip - hated them as a kid - and still don't like them!!!

Project 365 - day 172 - more karate pics

It was the second Battle of Moray today - its quite a small competition hosted by Kaizen - with lots of laughs (and a few tears along the way)

Sam took part in points and continuous sparring and entered King of the Ring. He came home with a trophy for 3rd in continuous (same as last time after fighting the same boy) With it only being a small competition he had to fight fellow Kaizen team members - who are also good friends. But there is no bad feeling and they are genuinely pleased for each other.

My POTD is the winning line up from the continuous sparring - it was a Kaizen 1 2 3 so well done lads.

A few random shots from the day.

Xander, Sam and Bradley.

Sam winning his fight for 3rd place.
