It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

Something a bit different - some thing I think my Mother might read!!

But it is OK - not sure how accurate the tale is but quite interesting to read about other things that happened during Word War 2 - illegitmate children being put into orphanages, the abuse women suffered at the hands of their husbands when they returned from war and racial abuse.

In Bristol, three very different women wait for their loved ones to return home.

But Edna's fiancé returns badly crippled. And Charlotte's husband comes back a very different creature to the kind, gentle man she remembers.

And as for Polly, her GI boyfriend doesn't come back at all, leaving her with a bun in the oven and a scandal in the making...

Throught the square window......

Looking through some of the photos I took on holiday I seem to have taken rather a lot of ones of doors, windows and balconies (there were also quite a few of door knockers which became something of a standing joke while we were away!)

Lagos was quite a bustling town but you only had to go up a narrow side street and you were on a deserted pavement - and I seemed to spend a lot of time looking upwards at balconies and all the tiles that seem to be everywhere. In the centre of the town was a building completely covered in green tiles!

Skywatch Friday

We have just spent a very relaxing holiday in Portugal and enjoyed it so much we are thinking about going back again next year.

In Lagos I visited Fort da Ponta da Bandeira - a very interesting looking building at the mouth of Lagos harbour/marina. For a couple of euros you can look inside where there is a small museum detailing the slave trade in Portugal - hence the slightly odd human forms dotted around. There is a tiny 18th century church which was completely tiled in Portuguese tiles. But the view from the roof was stunning - blues seas and blue skies and a fabulous display is metal "weathervanes"

It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

I am back off my holidays and back to wok today.

I felt the Kindle love while I was away and managed to read 10 books while lying on the beach or by the pool. But I am back home now and back reading a "proper" book.

Skywatch friday

We didn't want to venture too far from home on Sunday for a walk so headed for the Bin of Cullen. We have passed the sign for Hill of Maud many many times - and the name always makes me smile. Litle did I know that the Bin of Cullen and Mill of Maud were one and the same place.

Walk started off flat through the trees - we were lucky enough to spot a Great Spotted Woodpecker - but not close enough to get a photo. Slowly you climb up out of the trees towards the trig point at the  summit. the path zig zags up but we had to watch out as there are down hill mountain bike tracks and you don't want to be on one of the tracks when they come hurtling down at high speed.

The views from the top were wonderful - you could see all the coastline from Buckie, past Cullen and beyond and inland to Knock Hill:

Evening Walks

Moat evening for the past couple of weeks I have been going out for a walk in the evining - more of a speed walk than a stroll it has to be said.  I have a circular walk that is just about 2 miles and even though I walk the same route each evening (except tonight as it has been persisting down) I still manage to find something to take a photo of with my phone - and here are a selection:

June was a bit of a slow reading month so I am hoping July will be a whole heap better. We are off for a relaxing 10 days by the sea - so I forsee plenty of time on a sun lounger, floppy hat on and reading my Kindle :)

I am currently reading A French Affair by Katie Fforde which came out in February- she is one of my favourite authors although I have to say it has taken me a bit longer to get to like all the main characters in this one.
