Skywatch Friday

Sunday took us through the woods from Burghead to Roseisle and back along the beach - not many folk about so we almost had the beach to ourselves.

Looking at this photo makes me realise that I really do need to buy some new walking gear that actually fits instead of being several sizes too big!!

Back to School

Today saw the boys go back to school - that was the quickest 6 week Summer holiday ever!

Callum is now in S3 - he will be 14 next month - don't know where the time has gone.

And Sam is back for his final year at school. I am pleased to say he passed all his Highers with flying colours and is back in the 6th form to do 3 more and an advanced Higher. So this will be his last ever back to school photo.

Which makes me a bit sad.

It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

Myself and a couple of friends have challenged ourselves to read 10 books (library books, books of the bookshelf but mainly kindle books) before we can buy another book!

So I have picked up The First Lass Kiss by Ali Harris as it has been on my shelf for a long sime - so long infact that the authors 3rd has been published earlier this year - and I also have that one on my shelf!

Skywatch Friday

We have just spent a couple of days over on the West coast of Scotland in Oban. One day we took our mountain bikes on the small ferry to the isalnd of Kerrera - population only 34!

We cycled about 6 miles and visited Gylen Castle and a fabulous tea garden.

This is one of the views from the path - not sure if this was taken before I fell off into a huge muddy puddle!!

Monday saw us do a short 5 mile walk from Buckie to Portgordon and back.

If you look closely you can see all the seals on the rocks sunning themselves.

Past the old and tired lokoing boats in Portgordon Harbour.

And back along the Sustrans cycle route.

It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

I am off work for a couple of weeks - nothing much planned - waiting for number one sons exam results and a spti of "glamping" over on the West coast of Scotland. So hopefully plenty of time for reading.

Today I am almost at the end of Time To Say Goodbye by Katie Flynn. This is probably a book my Mum would enjoy as it is a nice gentle wartime read. You know exactly what you are going to get with Katie Flynn but the characters are usually easy to like and invariably there is a happy ending.

It's 1939, and three ten-year-old girls meet on a station platform.
Imogen, Rita and Debby all missed the original evacuation and now the authorities are finding it difficult to place them. When Auntie and her niece, Jill, who run the Canary and Linnet Public House, offer to take them in, the billeting officer is greatly relieved.
The countryside is heaven to the three little townies, especially after they meet Woody and Josh, also evacuees. They find that by climbing to the top of the biggest tree in the beech wood they have a perfect bird's-eye view of the nearest RAF station and are able to watch the comings and goings of the young fighter pilots as the Battle of Britain rages. Then they find an injured flier and the war becomes a stark reality.
As they grow up, love and rivalry enter their lives and, twenty years on, when the girls decide on a reunion, many surprises come to light...
