It's Monday. What Are You Reading?

A bit of a slow reading week for me this last week so I am still on Three Amazing Things About You by Jill Mansell. One of our beautiful 10 month old kittens went missing early on Wednesday and despite various possible sightings we haven't found him. Please send your positive thoughts this way for his safe return - we are all missing him - especially his sister. oticon

A book that has been lurking on my shelves for quite some time - one that has a lovely cover. I saw it in my local library and picked it up. Then realised I already had a copy. And today I have just discovered on Amazon that I bought it for my kindle back on 28th August 2013! I think I may have an issue with books!!

I'm not sure why I haven't read Take a Look at Me Now by Miranda Richardson before - but I am thoroughly enjoying it.

How far would you go to make a new start? Heart-warming and romantic, Take a Look at Me Now will make you laugh, cry and cheer Nell on from start to finish.

I picked up this weeks book in the library - only because it was on the new releases table and it was an authors name I recognised,

Three women find new hope in Peppercorn Street, a small village in a beautiful corner of Wiltshire with a mixture of homes and people. Janey is 18 and living in a small flat with her baby daughter. Just as her new life starts to show promise, her past catches up with her. Nicole is renting one of the new luxury flats. She’s just walked away from her husband and teenage sons, tired of being treated as a servant, suspecting her husband of having an affair. Winifred has lived in her large family home at the top of the street for over eighty years but it’s all getting too much, though she doesn’t want to leave.Things are not what they seem in any of the three women’s lives and danger can strike at rich and poor alike. The trick is to survive it, and for this you need good friends and courage: all freely available in Peppercorn Street.

When I started it I thought it was a book that my mother in law would like to read - and to be honest I thought it would be a bit slow.

But I was wrong. In Peppercorn Street by Anna Jacobs the characters (both nice and not so nice) are wonderfully drawn and I was soon sucked into the storylines. This is the first book in a new series - so I will definately be reading the next one when it comes out.

I didn't ready any Christmas books over the festive season - so I am making a start on them now!

One of my favourite authors is Judy Astley and It Must Have Been the Mistletoe is set in Cornwall - so what is there not to like?

Thea’s parents decide to host a big family Christmas in a house by the sea… even though they are, in fact, about to split up. Thea herself is newly single - her sister and brother are both settled, with children, homes and a future. But Thea’s boyfriend has ditched her in favour of his pedigree dogs, and Thea can’t decide whether or not she minds.

There will be copious food and drink, holly and mistletoe, lots of bracing walks and a wintry barbecue on the beach. If it seems an odd way to celebrate the final break-up of a marriage and the Moving On to new partners, no- one is saying so. But then no-one had anticipated that the new partners might actually turn up to complicate the sleeping arrangements.

As Cornwall experiences the biggest snowstorm in living memory, the festive atmosphere comes under some strain. Will Thea manage to find some happiness for herself? Will the mistletoe work its magic on them all?
