SLYMI - week 43

SCRAP WITH FLOWERS!
Think you can manage it??!!

You can use tons and tons of flowers or just a few...use paper flowers or paper with flowers or photos of flowers or doodles of flowers...whatever flowers you fancy!
I have had these October Afternoon papers since I went to the first GoGo Getaway in June 2008 so I thought I had better use them.

I cut 3 of the flowers out of a sheet of paper and then attached them to the page with brads.

The photo is of Callum just before we started off on a bike ride around Culbin Forest last summer.

SLYMI - week 42

SCRAP YOUR RIGHT NOW!

Every year just after my birthday I make a 'Right Now' page. The requirements are simple:
1. A recent photo of yourself.
2. Scrapped with supplies you really like right now.
3. Including a list of things you love right now or words that describe you right now.

This is a scraplift of the LO which graces the cover of this months Scrapbook Trends mag .

It was only when I had finished my LO I realised I had missed out the last element which was to include a list of things you love. Will have to go back and add those on afterwards - teach me not to read things properly.

As I am 9 times out of 10 behind the camera there aren't many photos in circulation of me - but I did relinquish my hold on my camera for a short while the other day while walking along Roseisle beach. I have used October Afternoon Weathervane papers, while not a recent release I still love them and they are gorgeous autumn colours.

And now I am up to date with Shimelles challenges.

SLYMI - week 41

Scrap a birthday.

This photo is of Callum opening his birthday cards last month. I lifted the LO from this months edition of Scrapbook Trends (Happiness is by Leigh Penner on page 75) I used some of my favourite October Afternoon papers. I love the puffy Thickers - trying to make them last as I only bought one pack.





I am half way through this weeks challenge and then I will be totally up to date again.

SLYMI - week 40

Scrap with autumn colours.

Amazed I am still keeping up with these challenges.

Photo is of Callum sitting in front of a huge round bale when we went out blackberry picking last month. Maybe shouldn't have photographed it outside and the sun was really bright and the LO looks washed out.

Used Basic Grey Mellow papers (one of my fave paper ranges) some BG rub ons and I covered a Maya Road chipboard tree in more of the papers.

SLYMI - week 39

Scrap with your own handwriting.

Why do so many people dislike their own handwriting? After all, it is said to be a reflection of our own personality; something that can be analysed to reveal who we really are. Whether you scrap with the minimum of embellishments for a clean, graphic look, or you prefer to layer up papers, ribbons and adornments to really fill your pages, your scrapbooking style reveals more about you than you realise.

So really, there is no need to shy away from leaving your mark on your layouts, a little something of yourself for future generations. Get out your pens and write and doodle on your layout for this week’s Scrap Like You Mean It challenge. Handwrite your title, add journalling strips, as I have done, doodle a border or write the whole story by hand; however you want to rise to the challenge, we’d love to see your layouts!

I am another who doesn't like my own handwriting - but I do usually write on my LOs - mainly because I'm to lazy to faff around with the PC to do it!

I love looking at thing with my Mum and Dads writing on like old birthday cards - and I have a little autograph book in which both my Nan and Grandad wrote something - brings back lots of memories.

This is a LO I started ages ago but never got round to finishing. It's of one of the best days we had last summer with our family from overseas. I used October Afternoon papers and cut out some of the blooms to layer up.

SLYMI - week 38

Scrap something learned.

School has been back in session for a few weeks so it's time to check in with something *you* have learned, whether it was a big lesson or a small one - a serious lesson or something funny!

I chose my new designer specs - and that after 30 years of having to wear either glasses or contact lenses I think I have finally learned to love my glasses. Even if the price was an eye opener - they should be free - it's not my fault I'm as blind as a bat!!!

Used some really old (and way too garish papers) from an old GoGo kit - and lots of pink brads which sit at the bottom of the box. Pink is so not my colour.

SLYMI - week 37

Scrap with metal.

So will it be brads or eyelets? Or do you have some older metal stash that is begging to be put to good use? How about a label frame or some wire? Or metal tape? Have an idea for plain old tin foil?

Scrap whatever you would like, but put some metal in there somewhere!

I was quite surprised when I had a rummage and found quite a few metal things I could use (not including brads or eyelets which I thought was a bit too easy) Came up with this little metal frame which I think came from an old Scrapagogo kit - one of the things you look at and think you will never use But I'm pleased that I have.

Photo is of Callum taking it easy at a local garden centre. Papers are Crate Paper, swirly stamps are Autumn Leaves and alphas are AC Thickers and Adornit tiny stickers.

Need to add some journalling at some point.

SLYMI - week 36

This week Scrapping The Magic challenges you to Scrap Something Magical.

Everyone's idea of something that is "Magical" is so different. One of the first things that obviously springs to my mind is my favourite Magical Place - Walt Disney World in Florida, But also the simple daily "Magical" things - like a Baby being born, a Magical sunset, a Rainbow, Magical Christmas, Lapland, Snow, Birthdays, something simple like a Magical smile of someone you know that lights the whole room up, could be something spooky like Witches and Halloween etc. I am sure that you will know just what "Magical" means to you ...

I scrapped a couple of photos of Fairy Glen on the Isle of Skye taken earlier in the year. It was a beautiful if a little bit unusual place full of folk lore about fairies and the such like.

The one thing that sticks in my mind about Fairy Glen was how tranquil it was - we couldn't hear any cars or people (maybe because we were the only people there) - the only sounds were birdsong and the sound of the waterfall in the other side of the glen. A truly magical place.


The LO was based on a recent sketch over on the Got Sketch blog.

SLYMI weeks 34 and 35

Week 34 was to scrap using the sketch provided. I chose a pic from Dad and Wendy's recent visit and used some bright and cheerful papers from Sassafras Lass. To be honest I never thought I would use those papers as they were too bright for me - but they sort of went with the bright blue sky - and Dads t shirt!! Photo was taken at Cullen beach.




Week 34 was to scrap a bank holiday weekend - but it couldn't be this weekend as Scotland had to do without! Although I would much prefer a day off at the end of August rather than the alternative which is the 2nd January.

I scrapped a photo of Sam at Edinburgh Zoo taken during May bank holiday weekend (where those of us north of the border miss out again as we only get one day off in May!) Used 6x6 Basic Grey Archaic papers and everything was sanded to within an inch of its life!! Finally opened my pack of puffy Thickers - lovely to look at but in my eyes to expensive to actually use!

SLYMI - week 33

Scrap a square within a square – take a piece of card stock or paper that is the same shape as you finished layout format but smaller. Scrap your layout onto that and then add it to your normal sized layout. (Or if you scrap 8.5 x 11 or 12 x 6 then scrap a rectangle within a rectangle!

I scrapped in 6x12 this time so my base for the page is a rectangle of patterned paper and two rectangular photos of the boys @ Culbin at Easter. Used October Afternoon papers and Alpha Bubbles Sizzlets for the title.




It also fits the brief of the August week 3 challenge over on UKS:
Space: real or theme 10 - plenty of white space
Prime number 5 - the number one
Outdoor theme 5 - in the forest
Bling/yellow 10 - minimal yellow in the patterned paper

SLYMI - week 32

Write in White!

Or actually, any light colour on a darker colour -- the challenge is to reverse the norm of writing with a black pen on a lighter coloured paper. Use a white or pastel pen, get out the letter stickers, stamp with a white or pastel ink pad or use your printer to create a block of text in reverse! Something that turns the habit of a black or brown pen in reverse this week!

I lifted this LO from a recent copy of Scrapbook Trends and finally managed to cut into my My Minds Eye Freebird papers. I have done my journalling in white pen on the red strips of paper.

The photo is of the boys from last summer on a dolphin spotting trip to Chanonry Point - and we were rewarded with the sight of dolphins jumping out of the water.

SLYMI - week 31

Scrap something old, new, borrowed or blue!

You can manage to fit all of those things into one layout or just pick one of the four! Scrap a wedding photo or ignore the wedding connotation entirely!

Don't scrap wedding photos - mine or anyone elses!

So I picked out one of the four elements to scrap. It's a photo of my dad taken last summer on Lossie beach - who at the age of 70 still enjoys a game of footie with the boys.

Used Fancy Pants papers.

SLYMI - week 30

Scrap your independence.

I knew what I wanted to scrap as soon as I saw the challenge.

After 18 years of living in married quarters (including one year of "squatting" after Andy had left and got a propert job!) we finally bought our own home. No more magnolia walls and odd coloured carpets, no more march outs (only ever did 6 and never charged) just a place to call our own. Its the start of a whole new chapter in all our lives.

This LO was one of the classes from the GoGo Getaway back in June. I'm ashamed to say I only half finished the class (run by Jane Dean) and then put it in a bag not to see the light of day again for over 6 weeks. It uses Fancy Pants craft papers and the cutest little pop up house. I filled it with pics of our new house and some journalling explaining how we had waited such a long time for this moment.

SLYMI week 29 and weekly challenge

I combined the challenges this week to save time.

The weekly challenge criteria were:
As two of us have/are celebrating our Wedding Anniversaries we thought we'd concentrate on a 'Love' theme for this weeks challenge especially as the Wedding season is in full swing during these Summer (yes Summer apparently ) months.

Use 'Love' as your theme, any interpretation as you'll see from our layouts - 10 points
To include pearls - 10 points
and recycle something - 10 points

I used a photo of the boys taken at Edinburgh Zoo - just look at those faces - only a mother could love them!!! I used a string of cheap plastic pearly stuff that I think originally came off some sort of packaging - really didn't think I would ever use it though!!

The SLYMI challenge was to scrap in threes - so my title is 3 Monkeys and I used 3 different patterned papers from the Basic Grey Mellow range and 3 buttons as the centre of my flower.

SLYMI - week 28

This weeks challenge was to scrap with a needle and/or thread.

I was going to scrap about my cross stitch which has recently come out of hibernation - but then I spotted my Bazzill In Stitchz template. I bought it ages ago but have never used it. The sewing took some time but I am pleased with how it has turned out.

I used Basic Grey Marrakesh papers and some fabric AC Thickers.

SLYMI - week 27

This weeks challenge was to scrap a happy story.

I know this photo has been scrapped before but it was perfect for this challenge. It shows Andy, Phil and Will together on the banks of Loch Ness - the first time they had all been together in about 9 years.

Where have those 12 months gone?? Doesn't seem more than a few months ago - we miss them all and can't wait to see them again -hopefully next year.

SLYMI - week 26

To scrap with stickers. After a rummage through my stash I found that apart from alpha one I don't have many stickers.

I used up some scraps of Sassafras Lass Robotics papers and had a few of the coordinating stickers left over from an old Scrapagogo Greetings kit. The photos show Callum in his fave shirt - all dressed up and ready to head off to a pals birthday party.

SLYMI - week 25

This week it was to scrap in green and blue.

I used Crate Paper Prudence papers - although the blue is rather green looking. While have ing a bit of a tidy I up I found the little metal LOVE charm and thought it went well.

I followed a class on Sarahs Cards - I love this site for inspiration and they do some yummy kits.

GoGo Getaway LOs and SLYMI

Am slowing managing to finish off some of the LOs I started at the Getaway last weekend.

I wasn't sure about the painted frame one at first - my painting looks like something a 6 year old has done. I quite like the painting behind the frame - I had some more paint at home and a foam brush which gave quite a nice effect.

Sam thinks it looks cool - so at least someone likes it.




The second LO is from the sketch challenges we were given. i used the orange teams sketch (which also asked you to use Bazzill Swiss dots card stock) and managed to combine it with this weeks SLYMI challenge which was to use felt. I die cut some felt hearts and sewed them onto the page. The papers are Robotics by Sassafras Lass and the title are Autumn Leaves stamps and tiny Adornit stickers.

SLYMI - week 23

This week we had to scrap a self portrait. I rarely appear in front of the camera - would much rather be behind it (a bit like a shield!!) This photo I took as part of Scrap Your Day last year. It was taken while I was waiting for the boys to come out of school - maybe I should stick to reading my book.

I used the totally scrummy Cosmo Cricket Early Bird papers - although it pained me to cut into them.
