Snap 2012 : Week 6

As it is Valentine's Day on Tuesday, our theme for the week is ... love

Had to visit a few sweetie shops to track down a packet of Love Hearts! Today I found bags of teeny tiny ones which would make perfect toppers for cupcakes - watch this space!

Snap 2012 : Week 5

Our theme and tip this week is look at Depth of Field. Now, this is where things begin to get a bit complicated, but let's have a go anyway!

Basically, 'depth of field' appears when a part of your photo is in focus, and the rest is blurry. The 'in focus' bit is the 'depth of field' i.e. how much is in focus.

If you have a DSLR or bridge camera, turn to 'aperture' mode and get that f stop down low! If you're using a compact camera, have a look and see whether you have an 'aperture' mode - many compacts these days do! And if you don't have that option, all is not lost ...

I loved this challenge and here is another one I took on a recent walk - I love only getting part of the subject in focus.

Snap 2012 : Week 4

This week is all about getting in close to your subject! If you're using a DSLR, this might be a bit tricky unless you have a special macro lens, but have a look at your settings and see how close you can get! Most compact cameras these days have a macro setting - try it out on different subjects! If you're using an iPhone, you can buy a macro lens to fit over the normal lens, with amazing results! My photo above was taken on my iPhone with a macro lens.

What does the colour red say to you? Anger? Love? Heat? What makes you see red? Show me some red in your world!

Snap 2012 : Week 2

This week our theme is temptation.

the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise
a thing that attracts or tempts someone:

I went for the good old Adam and Eve theme for my photo.

Snap 2012 : Week 1

Snap 2012 is a year long photography project being run by Suzie (she has her hands full as she is the brains behind 365+1 too) over on UK Scrappers. It looks as though the 2 projects are going to run side by side so I thought I would give them both a go.

Every Friday, the theme for the week will be posted on the Home Page. Further details will be found here in the Photography forum with a few more prompts around the theme. The theme might be linked to events happening in the world at the time, or might simply be a random theme my self-combusting brain cells spit out. Each week, I will also post a photographic tip that will teach you how to improve your photos - these might be basic tips on storing or organising your photos, or tips on framing, lighting, subjects, or they might be tips on editing your photos, using cool tools and filters to add a bit of fun. There will be something for everyone!

This weeks word is cold and there have been some fab photos in the UKS gallery. Typically the weather wasn't going to cooperate and we have been completely snow and frost free - never fear there is still time for some of the white stuff!! I have taken a photo of this sign by the pond in our local park before but only when is has been quite apt - but I do like the bright yellow sign against the more muted colours of the water and the birds.
