What did I think?

I have dipped in an out of some of this authors earlier series and have enjoyed them. This book is the first book in a brand new series called Bomber Command Girls.

I will admit I don't often read this genre of books (whereas my dear mother in law absolutely loves them) but sometimes its good to get out of your comfort zone a little bit.

I do enjoy her writing style and there is great attention to detail - which makes me suspect much research went into the storyline.  I haven't read a WW2 book in a while and I found this book was just a little bit different from the ones I have read previously.  I knew a little about bomber girls but not an awful lot - so this book was as much of a history lesson as it was a work of fiction.

It was an enjoyable story and loved the friendship between the girls as they navigated their way through troubled times. 

I will definately be recommending this book to my mother in law!!

Author Bio – Vicki Beeby is a saga author who writes about the friendships and loves of service women brought together by the Second World War. Her first job was as a civil engineer on a sewage treatment project, so things could only improve from there. Since then, she has worked as a maths teacher, an education consultant before she turned freelance to give herself more time to write. What did I think?

I have read quite a few of this authors books and have enjoyed them. Not sure I would have picked it up if I hadn't been familiar with the author as I have to say the cover didn't grab me.

The musical element to the story really appealed as it is something a bit different to what I am used to. The author really captured the Italian setting - the descriptions of the scenery and the food. 

Music played a significant part of the story - Steph is a trained pianist who works as a recording artist currently working with a well known band working on their reunion album.

I have never been to Italy but this story transported me there - a perfect piece of escapism. And just perfect for losing yourself in for a few hours.

Author Bio – I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only nine years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels and I now also write cozy crime, but my first love is romance. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.

I was pleased to be asked to take part in the above blog tour. Vicki is a new author to me so was looking forward to reading the book.

About the book:

What Did I Think:

This was a very readable book and the story and the characters drew me in from the very start. I will admit to this not being my usual genre of book but I did really enjoy it. The characters were really well written and the author certainly seems to know her stuff about this era. Before I read this book I knew very little about this side of the war and the roles that these girl played. A fantastic history lesson as well as a cracking good read. I will definitely be recommending this book to my mother in law who I know will absolutely love it.
