Fireworks at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope

Fireworks at Pennycress Inn

🍂 Sparks are flying in more ways than one...

After years of juggling teaching with volunteering, Polly is finally ready for a change. When she lands her dream job at Meadowfield Nature Reserve – with the promise of a promotion in three months’ time – she trades in the stress of the classroom for the beautiful autumn days of the Cotswolds countryside.

Pennycress Inn is the perfect base for her fresh start: charming, cosy and filled with friendly faces. But everything changes when Zac, her attractive but infuriating ex-colleague, arrives. He’s here to take up a post at the reserve too – and is also staying at the inn! Worse still, the promotion Polly was counting on is suddenly up for grabs – and Zac’s her biggest rival.

With three months to prove herself, Polly must navigate village life, unexpected emotions and a career-defining challenge. As tension simmers and fireworks fly, will Meadowfield become the place she truly finds where she belongs – or will she be forced to walk away from everything she’s dreamed of?

What did I think?

This is the 3rd book in the Pennycress Inn series which I am really enjoying - both the storyline and the characters.

Polly is looking for change in her life and so goes for a new job at a wildlife reserve - totally oblivious that an ex colleague (and enemy) is also in the running for the position.

This is a cosy rivals to lovers story - in a beautiful Cotswold setting.

My life is quite hectic right now - but this was the perfect book for a little down time. I'm back in a familiar location surrounded by familiar faces - what is there not to like.

Looking forward to book 4.

Falling In Love at Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope

Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn

Is this just a summer romance or could it be more?

Nicola grew up at Pennycress Inn, in the beautiful Cotswold village of Meadowfield, and now she’s come full circle by landing a job there. After a difficult few months, she’s happy to be back in the place she loves and calls home.

The whole village is looking forward to the annual summer carnival, and Nicola is charged with asking the local farmers to lend their tractors and trailers for the occasion. It’s an easy task – until she meets the new owner of Little Mead Farm, who stubbornly refuses to help.

On sabbatical from his City job for the summer, Charlie wants to do up his late uncle’s farm and put it on the market as soon as possible. The place might have been in his family for generations but country life is simply not for him. He has no time for whatever the villagers are up to.

When Nicola and Charlie meet, sparks fly – and unexpected feelings grow. Soon there’s more at stake in Meadowfield than the success of the carnival. But whatever happens between them, this is just a summer romance… isn’t it?

What did I think?

I have completely lost my reading mojo just now. Probably something to do with selling my house, buying a new forever home, packing and decluttering - all on my own. I haven't been able to find much headspace to read at all.

I think I have read some of the earlier books in the series - but not all of them. I would say it would probably help to read them in order - but I have to say it didn't seem to affect my enjoyment of the charming story.

A story of enemies to lovers, of opposites attracting and of course the backdrop of the beautiful Cotswolds - I am a bit biased as my Dad lives in that region so have been there so many times.

I found this a cute and quick read. It was a distraction amongst the rest of the chaos in my life just now. I need to find some similar books to give me a bit of breathing space - and a bit of me time.

Welcome to Pennycress Inn by Sarah Hope

Welcome to Pennycress Inn

Laura wants to shake things up. She’s thirty-eight, and has been living in her parents’ house since her divorce last year. Her siblings seem to have got their lives together: successful careers, happy marriages, beautiful children.

Laura’s determined to prove herself. And buying the beautiful Pennycress Inn in the idyllic Cotswolds village of Meadowfield could be just the way to do it.

But getting the inn ready for its first guests proves easier said than done! With crumbling walls, dangerous woodwork and loose roof tiles, not to mention unfriendly locals and even errant sheep, Laura soon fears she’s made the wrong choice.

Luckily a friendly face is on hand in the form of gorgeous chef, Jackson. But is he too good to be true? And just why are the villagers so against her?

Can Laura turn her life around and get the fresh start she longs for at Pennycress Inn?

What did I think?

My first blog tour of 2025 and delighted that it is the first book in a brand new series by Sarah Hope. Even better is the story is set in the Cotswolds - an area I know well as that is where my Dad lives.

It is a story of fresh starts. Laura is picking herself up and dusting herself down following her divorce. Buying Pennycress Inn fulfils one of her dreams and gives her the perfect platform to turn her life around. But what she wasn't expecting was her old crush, and brothers best friend Jackson living right next door.

This was such a fun read. Laura's new life doesn't go smoothly (I won't give anything away) and she has some issues to overcome in the village. The characters are delightful - it didn't take me long to become invested in them.

A cracking start to a new series and I'm already looking forward to book 2.

What did I think?

This is the 4th book in the Cornish Village series.

I love the cover - I would love to be walking along that path towards the sea.

Megan is newly single and looking for a new direction in her life. She decides to spend some time volunteering at the dog's home. I can sort of relate to Megan as I too am newly single - but I am a volunteer with my local Cats Protection branch. Lots of this story really resonated with me.

I have to say I was Camp Megan right from the start and I was really rooting for her as she navigates her new life.

I found this book a charming and I am already hoping there will be another book in the series.

A Fresh Start at Wagging Tails Dog's Home by Sarah Hope

A Fresh Start at Wagging Tails Dogs' Home

There’s no place like home…

Although dog trainer Sally is relatively new to Wagging Tails, the team she works with have quickly become her family and the dogs her friends.

But when Andy, the one that got away, turns up for a brief respite from the city, she is at a crossroads. As tempting as a life with him is, she loves her home of West Par, and anyway, she has responsibilities here.

Number one on that list is ensuring the dogs' home stays in business. A developer has been sniffing around wanting to buy the land, and the team is worried.

Sally will do anything to save her home and her friends’ livelihoods but the lure of reuniting with her lost love is strong. Is there a way for her to have both?

What did I think?

This is the 3rd book in the series. My OCD means I have to read books in order if they are a series. Saying that it does work well as a standalone title in my opinion.

I was delighted to return and be amongst my doggie friends again. I will admit to being a cat person but I do love dogs just that my circumstances mean having my own canine isn't possible.

This book focuses on Sally - a dog trainer who has come to work at the home. Of course her move to the Cornish village doesn't go without a hitch - but I won't spoil anything for you. Will she overcome these hurdles to establish herself in her new way of life? You will have to read the book to find out.

Like the previous books in the series this is a heart warming and cozy read. If you like Cornwall. And if you like dogs. Then I would really recommend this series. Looking forward to the next book in the series - and crossing my fingers that there is one.

Chasing Dreams at Wagging Tails Dogs' Home by Sarah Hope

Chasing Dreams At Wagging Tails Dog’s Home

After a difficult break-up, Poppy is keen to put the past behind her and what’s better than some relaxing time with her aunt in the picturesque Cornish village of West Par.

But life at her aunt Flora’s Dogs’ Home is anything but relaxing. When a poor little pup is stranded at the gates, Poppy takes them for a check up at the local vet, hoping against hope they'll be fine.

And there she meets Mack: the vet who is so charming and experienced with the dogs, but selfish and – dare she say it – money-grabbing with his clients.

But underneath that cold exterior, she's sure there's more to the story. If only she could convince him to open up. Because without him, the future of Wagging Tails isn't so assured...

 What did I think.

Sarah was a new author to me when I read the first book in the series - The Wagging Tails Dog's Home. I had no idea that she had written quite so many books till quite recently. I take this as a huge bonus - as I now have lots of reading to catch up with. The Cornish Bakery series really appeals to me.

On our return to Wagging Tails Dog's Home we return to Cornwall in December. Poppy returns to her Aunt Floras dogs home after a difficult period in her life -  to lick her wounds. But she fins the home is facing difficulties also.

I loved Poppy. She was a really likeable character. Her relationship with the dogs in the home made my heart melt.

A total feelgood story which you must read.

The Wagging Tails Dogs' Home by Sarah Hope

Life could not be busier for Ginny and the team at Wagging Tails.

The annual dog show is looming, a crucial event when it comes to fundraising and ensuring the volunteers can continue the brilliant work they do.

But their trusted newspaper reporter, who always includes them in his weekly column, is retiring, only to be replaced with a city-slicker named Darryl. And Darryl, as Ginny soon learns, has no interest in articles he deems 'below him'.

Not one to take no as an answer, Ginny becomes determined to get him to meet the dogs themselves. One look at their cute faces and they'll worm their way into his heart.

But what Ginny doesn't anticipate is that Darryl might be more open-hearted than he seems. And inviting him to the dogs' home might be the best decision she ever made – even if she doesn't realise it at first!

What did I think?

Sarah Hope is a brand new author to me so I was excited to read this book. The title is what appealed to me.

I  fell in love with the Wagging Tails Dogs' Home and all its inhabitants - you would have to have a heart of stone not to do so - although some of the dogs back stories were a bit sad.

This book was a delight to read - easy going and enjoyable. Even better is that as I have Kindle Unlimited I have her whole back catalogue to enjoy.

I think - but I might be wrong - that this is the first book of a new series. I really hope so.
