Love Match on the Road Home by Margaret Amatt

Love Match on the Road Home

After tennis star Georgie Porter retires at just thirty-one, she buys a campervan and returns to her hometown of Glenbriar, hoping to make amends for the hurts she caused to a former sweetheart. But instead of finding the man whose heart she broke many years ago, she comes face to face with his younger brother, Kerr.

Easy-going and quietly loyal, high school teacher Kerr Halley has strong opinions about Georgie Porter – and there are rules about interacting with your brother’s ex, no matter how long ago she split with him. Especially when Kerr has always secretly carried a torch for her.

When they’re thrown together to fundraise for a local sports project, old grudges begin to thaw, and Kerr’s true feelings come to light.

As Georgie rediscovers the charm of small-town living, she’s drawn to Kerr’s warmth, his wit, and the way he sees the woman she is now – not just the girl she used to be. But falling for him means confronting her past... and risking fresh heartache within a family she’s already hurt.

In a town where history runs deep and people have long memories, Kerr’s loyalties are tested – and Georgie must decide if she’s brave enough to play for love, and not just for victory.

What did I think?

How can this be book number 15 in the Glenbriar series already? I love this series. They feel like coming home in each book I read. It might be because of the setting. I love the Highlands and I'm lucky that it is right on my doorstep.

I'm not a fan or follower of tennis but enjoyed al the references to the sport. I can see why Georgie wanted to return home at the end of her sporting career.

I enjoyed catching up with the cast of characters from previous books in the series - with the addition of new ones in the form of Jake and Kerr. The old and new storylines seamlessly blend together.

I love Maragrets storytelling and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Apologies that this review is late. That's what happens when you think you have pressed publish!!

Author Bio –

Margaret Amatt is a bestselling Scottish author, professional daydreamer, and certified chocolate addict. She’s been making up stories for as long as she can remember – some of them even made it onto paper (and, tragically, onto floppy disks that no computer can read anymore). After two decades of writing in secret, she finally unleashed her first novel on the world in 2021, kicking off a ten-book series set on the stunning Isle of Mull.

But why stop there? She’s also the creator of The Glenbriar Series, where romance, small-town drama, and a pinch of spice keep readers coming back for more. This series is still going strong, with more books planned!

Margaret has spent her whole life in Scotland’s breath-taking Highland Perthshire, despite her entire extended family coming from the Glasgow area. Her books are romantic and emotional, sweet and funny, and each one can be read as a standalone, but long-time readers know the joy of familiar faces popping up, adding to the chaos.

So, if you love relatable characters, sizzling chemistry, and plenty of banter, you’re in the right place – just don’t blame Margaret when you stay up way too late reading just one more chapter.

Never Tear Us Apart by Rowan Coleman

A spellbinding tale of love, strength and sacrifice from the Sunday Times bestselling author. Based on the gorgeous island of Malta in WWII, this is a story about the power of fate, and how sometimes, in order to find yourself - and to find love - you must first lose everything else. . .

Fate has brought them together. Will time tear them apart?

2025

Named after a star, war correspondent Maia knows how to find the brightest stories - the tales of survival and strength - hidden amongst the dark realities of combat.

Now, travelling to Malta to visit her estranged father, with one more chance to build a relationship with her last remaining relative, she's here to find her own never having found somewhere - or someone - she can call home, she's desperate for answers that might show her where she truly belongs.

But when she arrives on the beautiful mediterranean island, she realises her long-lost family is full of more secrets than she could possibly have imagined. . .

1942

Maia wakes up to find herself on an island under siege, a city in ruins - and knows she must have been sent here for a reason.

Who has she been sent to save? Or is it Maia herself that needs saving? And just when she's finally found what she's been seeking . . . will time separate them forever?

Perfect for fans of Lucinda Riley, Santa Montefiore and Dinah Jefferies.

What did I think?

I haven't read a book by Rowan Coleman in a long time. No idea why - but it made me look forward to reading this latest offering. I seemed to remember liking her books - especially the other worldliness feel about them.

Now I do like a dual timeline so this was a big plus for me. I love exploring how 2 timelines and stories come together - although it did take me a while to get into the story, the timeslip element and Maia herself. But I am glad I persevered and it was a gorgeous story during which I fell in love with Malta - a country I have never visited.  It also felt a bit like a history lesson as I didn't know anything about the effect the war had on the island and it's people. The writing felt very authentic so I am thinking Rowan did her research quite thoroughly.

This is a delightful read with so many elements - mystery, love, timetravel and history. I have had little time to read due to moving house - but I am glad I made time for this book.

Mending Hearts at the Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett

Mending Hearts at the Cornish Country Hospital

A fresh start…

For A&E nurse Eden Grainger, Port Kara offers more than just a safe haven. It's a chance to break free from her ex Jesse and start a new life. Her focus now is solely on her four-year-old son, Teddie, whose autism means he sees the world in his own unique way.

A guarded heart…

Pathologist Drew Redford prefers to keep himself to himself in the busy hospital. Shaped by family loss and navigating life with high-functioning autism, he finds comfort in certainty. But when Eden and Teddie enter his world, an unexpected connection forms, especially through his gentle interactions with little Teddie.

A kindred connection…

Despite a growing fondness, both Eden and Drew are cautious. Eden is wary of repeating old mistakes, and Drew struggles with letting people in. But Teddie continues to bring them together and Eden thinks this could be the start of something really special. But when Jesse returns, Eden is thrown into turmoil and makes a mistake that could cost her everything.

What did I think?

I'm not great at keeping up with series of books - I think I have a habit of missing or skipping instalments. Not sure why.

I'm not convinced I have read all the books in this series - but this is book 6.

Jo has written a cast of wonderful and believable characters - some of whom were familiar but also some new ones. It did cover some tricky subjects but it was done in a sympathetic and sensitive manner.

I loved Drew from the outset. And the relationship between himself and Eden was so sweet. I'm hoping there is another book as I would really love to follow this blossoming romance.
