Jess is smashing her Edinburgh events management job right now. Her boss is talking about a promotion, her clients love her and other companies want her. But all of that comes to an abrupt halt when her brother suddenly has a stroke. Jess doesn't think twice about stepping in as his carer, but her boss is not so understanding. Demoted to managing low-end events, Jess is less than thrilled to be assigned to a small animal park in need of raising funds. She's even less happy when she clashes with arrogant head keeper, Nick. He's frustrated with her squeamishness; she thinks he's a lech. Nick wants a baggage-free life; Jess has so much drama going on, even the Kardashians can't keep up. But maybe saving the animals of East Lothian Wildlife Park will help these op-paw-sites find some common ground...
What did I think?
Somehow my original post didn't post as scheduled and it has taken till now for me to actually realise. My apologies to the author for this oversight.
I really enjoyed this slow burn romance between Jess and Nick - and enemies to lovers story. Set against the backdrop of an animal sanctuary - what is there not to like?? Plenty of cute animals if that is your thing. And did I also say it is set in Scotland? Always a winner but then I'm biased as that's where I live.
I thought this was a well written and captivating story - and I fell in love with the main characters and became invested in their romance. Saying that there are some more serious undertones dealing with such topics as family illness, caring responsibilities and relationship breakdown.
Will certainly be reading more by this author.
