Meet Me Under the Northern Lights by Mandy Baggot

Meet Me Under the Northern Lights

Can one kiss melt a cold, broken heart?

When career-focused Chloe Bellamy is sent to Iceland on a last-minute work trip, it’s her big chance to prove she deserves a seat at the top.

But there’s one problem, she may have embellished her CV a little… saying she speaks Icelandic when she doesn’t! And now, to add to her woes, she’s landed with no place to stay.

Gunnar Eriksson has a habit of saving people. First, when he rescued a young boy from a volcano and offered him a forever home. Then opening his door and welcoming in a spirited yet accident-prone Octogenarian. Now Gunnar has somehow tied himself to Chloe who needs all the help she can get but, for some reason, is reluctant to accept it.

Neither of them are looking for love, but under Iceland’s spell, and with a little extra help from those around them, something begins to shift. Could one kiss beneath the Northern Lights change everything?

This Christmas, escape to Iceland for festive feels, unexpected friendships and maybe even a chance at love.

What did I think?

I'm thinking it is still a little too early for festive reads but the title mentions Northern Lights (or the Merry Dancers) as we call them locally. I am lucky to live high enough in Scotland to see them quite regularly. No matter how many times I see them I am still amazed by the wonders of nature.

But I have never been to Iceland - it is on my bucket list. Even more so after reading this story.

I won't be giving any spoilers about the plot - instead I will tell you what I particularly enjoyed.

The setting - both magical and festive.

The chemistry between Gunnar and Chloe. You can't help linking them both.

The humour. I

As much as I like a gritty dram I do so love a book that makes me smile. And this one certainly delivered on that point.

Add this one to your festive TBR pile now.

One Winter at the French Chalet by Mandy Baggot

One Winter at the French Chalet

Things aren’t going well for travel writer Orla Bradbee.

With Christmas fast approaching, her boss is insisting Orla must travel to a rural village in France to interview a man who doesn’t speak. But with trouble at home – her teenage sister Erin is in a ‘situationship’ with a man online – Orla’s only plan is to take Erin with her.

Get the interview done, find out more about this online Romeo and still be back in time for Christmas dinner. Easy, right?

Saint-Chambéry is a picturesque French village nestled in the snow-capped mountains, but Jacques Barbier – gorgeous and brooding, yet a man of few words – makes it clear that Orla is wasting her time here.

Orla can’t deny that Jacques intrigues and infuriates her, but what is the mysterious Frenchman hiding exactly? And can she get close enough to uncover his secrets without risking her own heart?

Escape to the beautiful French Alps with Mandy Baggot for a romantic, heartwarming story to get you through the cold winter months!

What did I think?

This is a delight of a festive read.

It transported me to the continent and to the remote French chalet without leaving my comfy sofa.

I wish I had a job that meant I could travel for work over the festive season. I'm currently living on my own and not really looking forward to the enforced break from routine. A job like this would suit me down to the ground.

Yes there was a budding romance but this story is more than that. Loved the sense of community in the village and enjoyed getting to know some of the residents. Think we would all love to live in such a tight knit community.

This was a fun read - a perfect break from reality which was much needed. Mandy writes some fabulous stories and this one was no exception.

One Greek Summer Wedding by Mandy Baggot

One Greek Summer Wedding

Love is in the air…

When singer Cara is invited to a big, fat Greek wedding in Corfu, she sees it as a mixed blessing: some time to heal on the beautiful Greek island with her aunt will be a tonic, but it’s going to stir up memories – of before Seb ghosted her and disappeared off the face of the earth.

Akis Diakos, brother of the groom, should be looking forward to planning the bachelor party, but burdened by the weight of family expectation, his mind is elsewhere: he has a decision to make – one that could, apparently, ruin his little brother’s life forever.

When Cara learns that her aunt Margot brought her here under false pretences, she’s faced with a dilemma. She’s not sung in public since that fateful day at Eurovision when her life fell apart, and she’s not planning to now. But with Akis’s encouragement, it’s time for both of them to face up to their fears.

And who knows – maybe this beautiful duet will also lead to a beautiful romance?

From the queen of Greek romance comes a story that will heal those heartstrings and make you believe in love again…

What did I think?

From "the queen of Greek romance" comes this fabulous new title ready to whisk you off to the sights and smells of Corfu.

This is a thoroughly entertaining Summer read - one I didn't want to put down. Mandy loves Greece and many of her books are based there and she really knows how to set the scene. It was like being on holiday without leaving my armchair. Helps that the weather is currently Greek like with wall to wall sunshine this weekend.

Very relatable characters and Mandy's writing style is so easy to read. If you are lucky enough to be jetting off on a holiday then pack this one in your case. Or if you are in the back garden with your feet in the paddling pool - still go for it.

What did I think?

I do love a Mandy Baggot book. I am in need of some Autumn sunshine after 3 days of almost solid rain resulting in flooding, landslips and people having to be rescued!!

I love festive books as much as I love a Summer beach read. This book manages to capture the essence of both - Christmas in Greece. Although instead of being set on her beloved Corfu this book is set in Athens. A perfect piece of escapism reading.

I found this an entertaining and enjoyable read - a story of family and friends - and of finding love. I became absorbed in the story - noting better than when the wood burner is on and the rain is battering the windows - to curl up with a festive read. Does that sound perfect??

And if you are a foodie then this book is packed full of mouth watering delights. A word of waring - don't eat if you are feeling peckish

Under a Greek Sun by Mandy Baggot

Eve Collins is looking forward to the holidays.

Her job as a counsellor has been as taxing as it has been rewarding, and she can’t wait for some downtime on the Greek island of Corfu with best-friend, Gabby. But between Eve’s brother, Ben, unexpectedly joining and Gabby’s job at the animal rescue centre keeping her busy, Eve might have to start mucking in…

When Gianni arrives in the village of Episkepsi, it’s like a model has stepped straight off the pages of Vogue Italia… with an uptight personality to match. He may be super-sexy but there are obvious chips on those broad shoulders.

As Eve and Gianni get to know each other and both start to lean into the Greek customs and avrio mentality, an initial attraction starts to turn into something more. But with so much family drama in both their lives, neither of them were looking for a holiday romance...

What did I think.

I love Mandys books and the title of her new one reminds me that despite what the weather is doing out there today (dreich!) Summer is on it's way.

I have never been to Corfu but the writing really brought the island to life for me - and I would love to visit one day. I know that the island is a place that Mandy holds dear and visits often - so the writing really feels like it comes from the heart.

I enjoyed the story - plenty of little storylines running through the book. Some cute animals, strong coffee and some delicious sounding Greek food - all adds up for a fantastic read.

Now if only I was lying on a beach reading this one........

Staying Out For Summer by Mandy Baggot

Staying Out For Summer, Mandy Baggot

Publication date: 01/04/2021

About the book

After a summer of staying in, it’s time to let your hair down and escape to Greece!

For Lucie Burrows, it's time to embrace Greek life and put the past behind her! Having spent the summer of 2020 battling a global health crisis, Lucie Burrows is looking forward to a summer out of lockdown.

When best friend, Gavin, finds them the perfect Greek escape Lucie finally starts to think this summer might just go without a hitch. But after a landslide puts the village into a local lockdown, Lucie is thrown together with Michalis Andino, the super sexy village doctor. It's not quite the holiday she had planned, but things could certainly be worse.

As Lucie relaxes into the Greek way of life, she begins to wonder whether this lockdown might just end in a new life, a new love...

 What Did I Think:

I do love Mandys books and was delighted to bag a place on the blog tour for this her new book.
Set in Corfu the book transports us to warmer sunnier climbs - something we all need whilst we are all stuck at home. I wasn't sure i wanted to read about Covid in a book. My reason for reading is to escape from reality not be reminded of the current shit storm going on around us. But the references weren't too intrusive and I could gloss over them.
Such a comical cast of characters - i was picturing scenes from Mama Mia in my head whilst I was reading. And those tortoises...
Really enjoyed this sunny book - made me smile - and we all need to smile more 😀
