Blackpool fish and chip cafĂ© owner Fran Cartwright thinks she’s won the lottery when her husband Sid books her on a week working alongside a celebrity chef. Meanwhile, feeling she is fading at fifty, journalist Sally Parker-Brown hopes her press week covering the cookery course will enable her to boost her career.

But will the eclectic group be a recipe for success, or will the mismatched relationships sink like a souffle?

Whip out an apron, grab a wooden spoon and take a culinary trip to La Maison du Paradis, then sit back and enjoy The French Cookery School!

What did I think?

I always find Caroline's books highly entertaining and this one was no exception.

I do like banking myself although I don't do much anymore as I now live alone - if I baked then I would end up eating it all!!

A cookery school sounds like a fabulous way to spend a weekend - I quite fancy something like that. I also fancy a holiday to France.....

A cracking cast of characters are brought together at the cookery school (I was pleased to see that there were some more mature characters which I could relate to)

Another book which I would recommend if you are after some escapism from real life - and I know I am. This book totally transported me to the chateau (and yes I had that TV show in my mind as I was reading)

There were some laugh out loud moments, a dash of romance and a soupcon of friendship - all mixed together to produce a delicious read.

The French Cookery School is Caroline’s tenth novel. Previously, The Cruise, described as: ‘Girl power for the over sixties!’ was an Amazon Top Ten Best Seller. Caroline’s hilarious novels include The Spa Break and The Best Boomerville Hotel, depicted as ‘Britain’s answer to the Best Marigold Hotel’.

She likes to write in Venus, her holiday home on wheels and in her spare time, walks with Fred, her Westie, or swims in a local lake. The Cruise by Caroline James

Three friends set sail on a luxury cruise… will they be able to catch a husband on the open seas?

Leaving behind the heartache, guilt and disappointment of their real lives, three friends decide that now they’re in their sixties, it’s time they finally did something for themselves!

Swapping Christmas turkeys and BBC reruns for crystal waters, white sandy beaches and smooth golden rum, Anne, Jane and Kath throw caution (and tradition) to the wind as they set sail on a luxury two-week Christmas cruise around the Caribbean.

Will the three friends find the comfort and joy they seek aboard the Diamond Star?

What did I think?

This was such a fun read - but I wouldn't expect anything less from Caroline.

These 3 fabulous ladies are off on a fabulous journey. One widowed, one unmarried and one almost divorced - and all three are 63. Nice to have a book where the main characters are slightly older than the norm. Lots of new experiences and it was great to see their characters develop as the cruise gets going.

Jane, Kath and Ann are all dealing with their own grief and all feeling their age. But the cruise opens them up to new experiences.

I have never really fancied a cruise but after reading this book I think I could be tempted.

A fabulous light and funny read.

The Spa Break by Caroline James

The Spa Break - The laugh-out-loud romantic comedy of the year for fans of The Book Club

with Jane Fonda & Judy Leigh!

A weekend at the spa will leave four old friends with a whole lot more than they’d bargained for…

The glossy brochure promised a serene experience of total tranquillity and rejuvenation, but what best friends Bridgette, Emily, Serena and Marjory get is a weekend that upends their lives!

There for a girls’ weekend to celebrate Bridgette’s impending seventieth birthday, the spa soon has these spicy sexagenarians realising that there are unexpected benefits to age and experience, and that over the hill certainly doesn’t mean out of the game…in any respect…

What did I think?

Firstly I have to say what a fun cover this book has - it made me want to start reading straight away.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book - what starts as a seemingly routine spa break for a group of good friends turns into a life changing - and life affirming experience.

This was a coming of age story - for a slightly older age group. Such an entertaining read - I could have sat and read it in one sitting.

If you enjoyed Boomerville then you are going to love this one.
